We were called about kittens found at the bottom of a dumpster at an apartment complex. At first, we thought Mama may have made a terrible mistake and given birth in the dumpster. Once we climbed in, the truth was far more grim. Alongside the kittens was a box containing pee pads, cat food, and old litter boxes.
These babies were only about 7–10 days old, and the trash had recently been picked up. This was not an accident.
The situation at the complex quickly became tense. Several individuals became aggressive, and we believe the woman who dumped the kittens may have been present. She was yelling and filming while we were trying to rescue them. For everyone’s safety, we got in and out as quickly as possible.
We don’t know what happened to Mama. She may have been kept by the person who dumped the kittens, but there is no way to know for sure.
We rescued these little ones over a week ago, but with Skye and several other critical rescues, we hadn’t yet had a chance to share their story. These babies are bottle fed and need to eat every 4 hours. Just imagine how crazy busy we are.
The gray boy is Trinket, and the calico girl is Treasure. One person’s trash truly became another person’s treasure.
They are doing very well. We were especially worried about Trinket at first, as he was limp and not very active. We believe he was severely chilled from the wind and cold. Thankfully, he has made an incredible turnaround and is now a little maniac.
Stay tuned for updates.
